Sideways. The wife and I saw it last night - easily the best film of the year. Paul Giamatti is incredible, and incredibly funny. It's not the type of movie that you need to see on the big screen (a la Master and Commander), but it's the type of movie that
you need to see.

Yeah, definitely an awesome movie. I'm a big fan of Alexander Payne, and not just because he's from my home town (and he filmed his first three films there).
Sideways was a bit of fresh air amongst all those huge, blockbuster, big-name-stars movies of last year.
Paul Giamatti has always been a favorite actor, too, but it wasn't until recently that I actually realized he was the son of Bart Giamatti. Just never made the connection (did you notice, in the movie, at Paul's character's mom's house, the photo of Paul with his father? I thought that was cool).
I loved Sideways, too. If Paul Giamatti doesn't garner a Best Actor Oscar nomination, then there is no justice in the world. Of course, I'm pretty sure the Oscars only exist to drive up my blood pressure and make me throw things at the television, so perhaps said nomination is unlikely.
I still have to go with Garden State as the best film of the year, though. :-)
We just got Garden State off Netflix yesterday. We'll be watching it this weekend, so i may have a *new* Film of the Year (TM) by Monday.
I've always like Paul Giamatti, too. His facial expressions alone should get an Oscar nod and the scene between him and Virginia Madsen on the porch will be the one that wins him the Golden Globe. And the scene between Miles and Jack on the beach:
Jack: Ya see? I could never write anything like that!
Miles: Neither could I, I think it's Bukowski.
And hey, thanks for stopping by! I'm excited that people actually read my page....
No problem! I'm excited that people read mine, too. ;-)
